On The Fly & Boats on the Nile

Dragonfly – Epic picture was caught on the fly…..so to speak.  Afternoon shot, and the dragonfly in question was very accommodating and seemed to hover in the one position for what seemed like many minutes while I set up my camera accordingly.  I think that you will agree the end result was worth the effort.

Nile Boats – One of the highlights of our trip to Egypt was the four day trip down the Nile from Cairo to Luxor on one of the luxury boats pictured, our boat was aptly named “Queen of Sheba” and yes the were racked and stacked at night just as you see in the picture, sometimes even more depending upon the number of boats in port at any one time.  Very strange feeling if you happen to be on the last boat as you would have to walk through the main entrance of all other boats to get to the shore.

Contemplating

My two sons taken on the same evening both in a mood of thoughtfulness, both brooding - Identical twins with dual souls buy very separate thoughts and feelings. More alike than they care to feel and poles apart when the mood takes them.  I have taken photos of the boys and now in the process of transferring to pastel paper with lead and charcoal.

Alien Vegetation

In my wanderings I happened upon a grove of unusual vegetation, hence the title `Alien`!
when I come across something unusual or out of the ordinary I try my hand at applying a few filters.
the effects can be inspiring.

Space Found & Triffid!

Image originally taken from photo of an old war gun. It is a small section that intrigued me, I focussed on this and created something quite interesting, this has been transferred to charcoal and pastel.

Inspired by our wanderings on the Esplanade, clumps of ferns that put me in mind of the movie `The Day of the Triffids` 1962 - medium to be used will be charcoal and pastel.

Empty

'Empty' is an exploration of the battered soul, a rendering of acrylics and various mixed media. It was produced during a period of darkness, the emotion portrayed via brushstroke and colour.
Original image is 760w x 1220h, unframed, canvas backing, varnished in a satin finish.

Three Craggy Men

While cooped up on the rickety train outbound from the great city of Cairo to the back streets of Aswan, I captured the image of three local men through the window, their craggy faces rich with untold stories. Weathered robes and toothless smiles, they were a contrast to the rising urban sprawl.
